Engagement ring box Cake
Well I was set the challenge to make an Engagement Ring Box Cake for an Engagement party. The cake was easy was enough using a hexagon cake tin, with the cushion effect just needed to taper the cake and round it off slightly. The bride to be decided on a simple vanilla sponge with buttercream and jam.
The challenge for me was the lid for the box.... I decided this would be the only part that was not edible. Therefore the lid is made from cardboard base with icing laid on top. This still proved to be more challenging than I anticipated as the icing does not stick as well to the cardboard as it would cake, and working with it to do the rim etc proved to haves its own difficulties with potentially the icing cracking, lastly was the problem of holding it up against the cake and keeping it up during transportation to the venue, anyway manged to succeed against most of the dificulties, minor lid movements during transportation but was able to quickly fix again with some left over buttercream.
Hope you like. ..

Nursery Thank you Cake
Well this is a personal Thank you cake for my daughters Nursery. She is now ready for 'big school' and wanted to Thank the teachers for all their hard work. I have used the Nursery logo for the main part of the cake, then I wanted to add a few decorative items associated with 'nursery life' eg little paintings, teddy bear, ball, colouring pencils etc.
After the I took the photo's, I realised my mistake with the spelling 'Nursery' but I have corrected the final cake before giving to the teachers.

Boat Cake
Well I was asked to do a boat cake for a colleague of my as she has a little cruiser along the Thames. This was probably my most challenging Cake to do and hadn't really worked too much before on carving and shaping cakes.
I tackled it in a construction type manor, cutting the overall shape first, then carving into two, base of cake and top half. Next needed to shape the invidual halves by tapering in etc, sugarcrumb coat it and then cover in paste. Next stage was applying the filling for the cake before putting the two halves together, moulding and sealing the paste together, Then lastly addings the other structures to the cake.
Once this had all dried overnight all other decoartions could be added!
This one is a lemon based sponge with lemon buttercream filling with a little lemon curd.
